September Newsletter

Current

The September 2026 Case Manager Insights newsletter from Paving the Way MSI is all about helping DC residents navigate a tough job market, highlighting free resources like the Department of Employment Services and its American Job Centers, A Wider Circle's weekly Job Café every Wednesday at their Ward 8 Hub, Jubilee Jobs for short-term certifications in fields like hospitality and IT, and the University of the District of Columbia's free Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning certificate programs. The featured organization this month is Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington, whose Next Step Program and STRIVE employment readiness training offer hands-on support with everything from resume building to obtaining a valid ID. On the community side, readers are invited to enjoy the 17th Annual DC State Fair on September 6 at Anthem Row and Mayor Muriel Bowser's Art All Night festival on September 11 and 12, both free events celebrating the heart and creativity of Washington, DC. The newsletter also shares a heartwarming success story of a young person connected through case management to Alice's Kids, who received a gift card for school uniforms and shoes, and wraps up with safety and wellness resources like the DC Private Security Camera Voucher Program, Friendship Bench DC, and the MedStar Family Choice Community Wellness Center.

August 2026 VOC Newsletter

This August 2026 issue of the Paving the Way MSI Case Manager Insights Newsletter focuses on housing resources in Washington, DC, highlighting organizations like the Salvation Army's EMAST Program, Community Connections, Fortitude Housing DC through Catholic Charities, the Downtown Day Services Center, and SOME (So Others Might Eat), all of which offer a range of services from emergency financial assistance and eviction prevention to permanent supportive housing and behavioral health care. The newsletter also shares an uplifting success story about a consumer who, with the help of case management and the Downtown Day Services Center, was finally able to obtain a free non-driver DC ID, opening doors to public benefits and resources across the District. On the community events side, readers are invited to check out the RFK Farmers and Flea Market on Saturdays at 2615 Benning Rd NE, as well as the Flourish and Grow Back-to-School Mental Wellness Workshop on August 8 at the RISE Demonstration Center, a free event designed for middle school youth that includes lunch, school supplies, mindfulness, and positive psychology activities. The newsletter rounds out with a reminder about Protect DC, a resource where anyone can anonymously report non-emergency safety concerns and get connected to behavioral health, housing, and employment support, and encourages readers to reach out to their case manager for help navigating any of these resources.
